KPMG's Financial Risk Management (FRM) team advises clients on the development and implementation of risk management policies, systems and controls. Working with professionals from KPMG International and local network we offer a broad range of financial risk management services to help international banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and corporate and public clients identify, assess, manage, report, and limit the risks they face.
Our scope of the work covers the full spectrum of financial risks, such as credit risk, market risk, operational risk and liquidity risk; economic capital, capital management, stress testing, risk modeling and validation. There is a particular emphasis currently on assisting clients prepare for the implementation of FRTB (Fundamental Review of the Trading Book)/Basel IV and other current local and international regulatory and risk management initiatives. Clients include local and foreign financial institutions, and there is a strong focus on financial institutions in mainland China.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end delivery of risk transformation, ERM, and compliance governance projects, ensuring high-quality outputs that align with client strategic objectives.
- Maintain an understanding of global and local risk management practices, providing expert insights on emerging trends such as regulatory change and digital risk transformation.
- Advise clients on the design and implementation of robust risk operating models, control frameworks, and financial risk mitigation strategies.
- Supervise and mentor a team of risk specialists, fostering a collaborative culture and actively contributing to the professional development and career progression of team members.
- Build and maintain strong internal networks across the firm's Advisory and other service lines to provide holistic solutions to clients.
- Degree holder in Finance, Risk Management, Accounting/Financial and Actuarial Engineering/Business Mathematics or any other business related discipline
- At least 7 years' experience in professional services advisory, management consultancy, international banking, insurance or a blue chip industry company with demonstrable experience in financial risk management
- Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Designing and implementing enterprise-wide risk frameworks, risk appetite statements, and risk governance structures.
- Experience with regulatory assessments, compliance monitoring, and enhancing risk management policies to meet supervisory expectations.
- Streamlining risk processes, enhancing internal controls (SOX/ICFR), and digital transformation of risk management functions.
- Deep understanding of market, credit, and liquidity risk, including capital adequacy frameworks and stress testing.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale, complex projects under tight deadlines, with exceptional planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and gain the confidence of senior executives. Fluent in English (written and spoken) is essential; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is a strong advantage.
- Professional Qualifications: CFA, FRM, CPA, or equivalent professional designations are highly preferred.
- Familiarity with GRC tools, data analytics platforms, or automation software in a risk context is a significant plus.
