Service Line Overview
KPMG's Financial Risk Management (FRM) team advises clients on the development and implementation of risk management policies, systems and controls. Working with professionals from KPMG International and local network we offer a broad range of financial risk management services to help international banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and corporate and public clients identify, assess, manage, report, and limit the risks they face.
Our scope of the work covers the full spectrum of financial risks, such as credit risk, market risk, operational risk and
liquidity risk; economic capital, capital management, stress testing, risk modeling and validation. There is a particular emphasis currently on assisting clients prepare for the implementation of FRTB (Fundamental Review of the Trading Book)/Basel IV and other current local and international regulatory and risk management initiatives. Clients include local and foreign financial institutions, and there is a strong focus on financial institutions in mainland China.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the execution of engagements related to AI model risk management, AI governance, and the digital transformation of risk processes.
- Advise clients on establishing robust governance frameworks for AI/ML model deployment, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory expectations and ethical AI standards.
- Build and maintain productive client relationships, actively identifying opportunities to help organizations leverage AI to enhance their risk operating models.
- Supervise a team of risk and technology specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and contributing to the career development of team members.
- Maintain deep, up-to-date knowledge of AI trends, regulatory and industry-leading risk management practices.
- Partner with internal Advisory and Technology teams to deliver holistic, AI-enabled solutions that streamline risk and compliance operations.
- Degree holder in Finance, Risk Management, Accounting/Financial and Actuarial Engineering/Business Mathematics or any other business related discipline
- At least 7 years' experience in professional services advisory, management consultancy, international banking, insurance or a blue chip industry company with demonstrable experience in financial risk management
- Possess in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
- Expertise in model validation, stress testing, and the identification of risks inherent in AI/ML deployments (e.g., bias, interpretability, data privacy).
- Designing policies, controls, and oversight frameworks for AI systems in alignment with regulatory and ethical standards.
- Experience in automating risk and compliance processes through AI/GenAI solutions to drive operational efficiency.
- Understanding of how AI/ML models are applied to market, credit, or liquidity risk, and the associated control processes.
- Strong grasp of AI/ML concepts and their application in risk environments.
- Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and data visualization tools is highly desirable.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to gain the confidence of senior executives and technical stakeholders alike.
- Strong planning and organizing skills, with a track record of managing large-scale, complex projects under pressure.
- Fluent in English with excellent business and technical writing and presentation skills. Proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) is a strong advantage.
- HKICPA, CFA, FRM, or professional certifications related to AI/Data Science are highly preferred.
