Description
The Village of Northport, Michigan is seeking a qualified certified public accounting firm to provide independent auditing services for the Village’s financial statements. The selected firm will perform audits in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) and Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and prepare all required reports and communications for submission to the State of Michigan Department of Treasury.
The engagement includes biennial audits of the Village’s financial statements for fiscal years ending June 30, 2026 and June 30, 2028, with the option to extend the engagement for up to two additional fiscal years at the Village’s discretion. The Village utilizes fund accounting and prepares financial statements in accordance with GAAP as applied to governmental units, including enterprise funds.
The auditor will work closely with Village management and staff to complete audits in a timely manner and provide professional guidance on financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance matters relevant to Michigan local governments.

Requirements
Qualified firms must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Licensed to practice public accounting in the State of Michigan and in good standing
- Demonstrated experience auditing Michigan local governments, including villages, cities, townships, or authorities
- Experience with GAAP, GASB standards, and Michigan Treasury reporting requirements
- Ability to conduct audits in accordance with GAAS and Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book)
- Experience with enterprise funds and utility operations preferred
- Experience with Single Audits under Uniform Guidance, when applicable
- Satisfactory peer review results for governmental audit engagements
- Ability to meet required reporting deadlines established by the Village and the State of Michigan
- Adequate staffing and resources to ensure continuity and timely completion of work
