On behalf of M&G, AMS are looking for a Sustainability Risk Manager based in London, on a 4 day working week on a day rate engagement. This is a hybrid working pattern of 2 days per week from the office and 2 from home, on a 6-8 month contract.

Job description - the role
The Central Sustainability Office plays a critical role in identifying, assessing, and managing sustainability-related risks across M&G plc. These include environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks that could impact the Group's long-term value, stakeholder trust, and regulatory compliance. You will work with the Sustainability Risk Manager and the wider Central Sustainability Office (CSO) team to help ensure that sustainability risks are proactively identified, escalated, and addressed in alignment with the Group's strategic priorities and commitments.
This is an opportunity for an aspiring sustainability professional to play a key part in supporting M&G achieve its sustainability vision and work closely with, and learn from, senior subject-matter experts.
The role is a 6-8 month contract to support the Sustainability Risk Manager to further develop and embed the approach to 1LoD sustainability risk management within the CSO team. They will have a particular focus on the management of the sustainability risk framework, including documenting key sustainability processes, risks and controls and will work with the CSO team and 2LoD to verify the effectiveness of this framework.
What you'll do:
- Work with the Sustainability Risk Manager and CSO team to document key processes, identify risks, conduct risk and control assessments, and prepare reports
- Assist with the management of the CSO Risk and Controls Self Assessment process
- Review and update the sustainability risks and controls register, risk appetite statements, Key Risk Indicators and other related documents
- Contribute to the design of dashboards and MI to maintain awareness and provide guidance to senior management and committees of Group-wide material sustainability risks
- Work with 2LoD to verify the effectiveness of controls and risk management processes
- Assess KRIs to determine residual risk status and develop remediation plans where required
- Work with businesses to assess their exposure to and management of ESG risks, and collate a central view of risk across the Group
- Support regulatory advisory activities by reviewing emerging sustainability risks, performing ongoing ESG regulatory horizon scanning, and providing feedback for regulatory consultations
- Support the Sustainability Risk Manager in attending risk/ sustainability working groups or forums by preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking actions to completion
- Work with the Group risk team to ensure ESG risks are appropriately reflected in the Group risk taxonomy
The skills you'll need:
- Strong track record of working within a corporate sustainability, 1LoD or 2LoD risk team and preferably at a financial institution
- Strong technical knowledge of sustainability in financial services and ability to engage on environmental, social and governance issues from a risk perspective
- Working knowledge and previous experience of risk and controls frameworks used in financial services and sustainability risk integration
- Good project management skills and ability to navigate a complex environment, work independently, and manage multiple stakeholders
- Self-starter with a proactive and collaborative approach, who is able to effectively engage with key stakeholders across the group
- Organised and thorough with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent office skills and practical experience of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Risk management qualification would be an advantage
