This is a full-time, exempt position based in northern California that will interface with our team in our Roseville, California office. This position requires significant driving to policyholder locations in California with some travel to the Reno/Lake Tahoe area and the Roseville office. Air travel to the corporate office in Sandy, Utah is also required at least quarterly.
WCF provides safety and risk services to over 20,000 workers’ compensation policyholders. We are dedicated to reducing the frequency and severity of workplace accidents and increasing safety and risk awareness. Our safety & risk specialists play a crucial role in this effort by delivering expert safety and loss control services to our agency partners, policyholders, and underwriting team. This often includes challenging and complex evaluations and development of innovative solutions to difficult safety and health problems. Through a combination of on-site evaluations, customized risk improvement plans and recommendations, and specialized training to groups of various sizes and backgrounds, the safety & risk specialists help deliver a key element of the unique value we offer to our policyholders and agency partners.
In addition to workers’ compensation, this role will support internal underwriters, external agency partners and policyholders with commercial lines exposures, including General Liability (GL), Commercial Auto, and Inland Marine (IM). The consultant will provide risk assessments, safety recommendations, and help improve overall risk management across multiple lines of business
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, physical sciences, or a related technical field and at least five years of related work experience. Strong knowledge in GL, Commercial Auto, Workers’ Compensation, and IM lines of business is preferred.
This position calls for an advanced combination of technical and interpersonal skills. The candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and superior presentation skills. The ability to work independently, manage time appropriately, and prioritize and organize tasks is critical. The work also requires highly refined investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The candidate must show proficiency in using current computer and mobile technology and demonstrate a solid understanding of fundamental safety and risk work tools utilized to provide effective account servicing and risk improvement. The candidate must be able to relate well with internal and external customers and know how to communicate complex scientific concepts to customers effectively. Knowledge of current Cal OSHA safety and health standards is required, and an understanding of the WC, GL, Auto and IM insurance products is a plus.
Professional Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and/or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) are preferred.
