Title: Senior Accountant
Status: Full Time – Exempt
Reports To: VP of Finance
Business Unit: Finance
Salary Range:$76,500 to $90,000 with some flexibility, based on the academic, professional, and community experiences and credentials of a candidate
Nature of Work
The Senior Accountant provides professional-level support to the financial operations and management of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and reporting financial and accounting information in adherence to the organization’s policies and procedure. The senior accountant supports the foundation's mission through effective financial management while providing outstanding customer service to internal team members, donors, fund holders and the nonprofit community.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Manage all accounting functions to be accurate, timely and in accordance with internal controls.
- Manage matured planned gift process including evaluation of information, revenue recognition, posting, and reporting through meeting and coordinating with the development team.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of assigned accounts.
- Prepare monthly reports for supporting organizations and nonprofit organizations.
- Prepare for and assist with annual tax reporting requirements for ACF and supporting organizations providing necessary documentation and support to VP of Finance and auditors, as requested.
- Prepare for and assist with financial audits, providing necessary documentation and support to VP of Finance and auditors, as requested.
- Serve as a back-up in absence of other finance staff; need to be familiar with other general accounting functions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance department and contribute to the implementation of best practices.
- Create and update procedure manuals and processing guides related to position responsibilities.
- Maintain working files in accordance with the record retention policy. Formulate procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer and disposal of records.
- Maintain confidentiality of Community Foundation affairs in communication, both written and oral, and ensure such through appropriate filing and disposal of materials.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal team members, donors, fund holders and the nonprofit community.
Requirements
Knowledge or Skills
To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as Microsoft Excel. Desire to learn and adopt new technologies (WRIKE, Treasury Software, Salesforce, and Sage Intacct).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Arizona Community Foundation and the nonprofit sector and able to present the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Five or more years of increasing responsibility in full-charge general accounting financial reporting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of fund and nonprofit accounting are preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and nonprofit financial management.
- Ability to work in person at the Phoenix, AZ office. Hybrid options will be discussed after successful onboarding / training period.
