Summary:
KIC is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to assist with the management and compliance of multiple projects and contracts with the federal government. The Project Accountant is responsible for using contract documents to set up and manage projects within Deltek Costpoint. This position will provide monthly revenue recognition and cost accruals, as well as billings to clients. The Project Accountant assists Project Managers in conducting monthly margin analysis and job cost reviews, and ensures that filing off all contract documents, invoices, and other information is filed according to all regulations and guidelines.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Create and manage projects in Deltek Costpoint to include, but not limited to, correct billing formulas, revenue formulas, contract funding and modifications, project locations, and employee workforce per project contract requirements.
- Maintain Deltek Costpoint project information throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Create and submit accurate monthly billing to customers with cooperation from Project Managers.
- Assist, support, and trouble shoot Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll for project/account errors.
- Review and post timely and accurate project monthly revenue recognition procedures, in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and prepare month-end journal entries, subcontracts, and ODC accruals.
- Prepare, analyze, and review project costs and variance reporting for assigned
- Verify required documents are one file for weekly invoice payment.
- Reconcile unbilled monthly invoices and communicate discrepancies to management.
- Analyze all direct project costs/fee/revenue data, monitor project budgets and progress, and share results with Program Managers to ensure projects achieve financial expectations.
- Interact daily with other departments, including Accounting, Project Management, and Business Unit Leads regarding project-related issues.
- Maintain open communication with direct management regarding financial results and ensure Project Managers and other senior personnel are aware of risks and opportunities identified during project financial tracking, revenue review, A/R, WIP, etc.
- Maintain complete project files on SharePoint including contracts, subcontracts, proposals, budgets, revenue & plans, schedules, project review materials, reports, deliverables, invoices, leases, and agreements.
- Track and monitor projects in anticipation of de-obligation of funds requests.
- Participate in financial audits, including preparation, and remediation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Experience/Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- 5+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or Project Accountant.
- Government contracting experience required.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) required.
- Knowledge of Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements preferred.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide constructive, solutions-focused feedback to address discrepancies in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability manage time effectively to prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks proactively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or other productivity software.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/database software.
