Description:
The Operations Accountant position, based in Michigan City, Indiana, reports to the Manager, Operations Finance and Analysis and is responsible for analyzing PPV and manufacturing variances, inventory reconciliations, cycle count reporting and analysis and partnering with plant managers to develop and review various operational metrics. This role ensures the accuracy of cost records, monitors cost variances, and contributes to budgeting and forecasting.
Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain standard cost systems and cost accounting records.
- Analyze production costs, material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead expenses.
- Prepare cost reports comparing actual costs to standard or budgeted costs.
- Investigate and explain variances between actual and expected results.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and inventory reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts, providing cost projections and recommendations.
- Review and update cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead periodically.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, and production teams to improve cost efficiency.
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports for management decision-making.
- Lead projects to define and improve processes
- Identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks and suggest improvements
- Support operations improvement initiatives i.e. ROI investments, Kaizen projects, workflow improvement savings and cost.
- Act as a bridge between business teams and technical teams.
Experience, Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting , Finance, or a related field.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Operations or Supply Chain background preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, GAAP, and inventory valuation methods.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (SAP, AS400/MRM) and Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
