Corporate Governance & Risk Associate£65,000 - £70,000 + bonus + benefits | Hybrid (Home-based with travel to Manchester & London)
An ambitious and fast-growing specialist investment, business services, and insurance group is seeking a Business Manager - Associate (Special Projects) to join its growing group. The company delivers innovative funding and risk solutions across professioanl business services and specialist insurance markets. This hybrid role allows flexibility to work from home, with collaboration across offices in Manchester and London. It offers the opportunity to be part of an organisation at an exciting phase of expansion, where your first projects will input and directly shape the governance and risk infrastructure of a forward-thinking business. Other projects will be formulated and given to you by the CFO and other stakeholders to assist in the IPO process.
About You
- Professional qualifications such as CGI, ICA, IRM, or a finance/legal accreditation (ACA/CIMA/ACCA/CPA) are a necessity as is a strong academic background.
- Experience in project related work within financial services, funding, professional services or insurance sectors or related sectors. (Previous experience of governance, risk management, or compliance is not necessary)
- A strong interest in and willingness to learn about corporate governance frameworks and sound familiarity with regulatory and data protection requirements.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with a methodical and proactive approach.
- Strong communication skills, able to engage effectively with executives and stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience producing reports and documentation for senior audiences and demonstrating sound judgment in sensitive matters.
- Naturally analytical, detail-oriented, and commercially aware.
Reporting to senior management, your initial role will be central to developing, embedding, and maintaining governance and risk frameworks across the group. You'll play a hands-on role in enhancing operational governance, supporting board and committee structures, and ensuring that the organisation maintains compliance with regulatory standards and industry good practice. The role is highly project-based, requiring strong organisational capability, initiative, and attention to detail. It will suit someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys managing multiple priorities while contributing to strategic transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate internal audits, risk reviews, and compliance checks to ensure group entities meet internal and external standards.
- Lead or support key governance and risk projects, ensuring deadlines are met and outcomes align with business objectives.
- Provide regular insight and recommendations to senior management, highlighting emerging risks, control improvements, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with subsidiary CEOs, department heads, and functional leads to ensure risk and compliance responsibilities are understood and fully embedded
- Manage and coordinate the governance calendar, including scheduling, preparing agendas, collating and circulating board and committee packs, and ensuring timely follow-up of actions and decisions.
- Take ownership of governance documentation including terms of reference, policies, and attestation records across group entities.
- Assist with the preparation of governance reports for senior leadership and board committees, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and accountability.
- Support the evolution of governance practices in preparation for future public reporting requirements
- Maintain, enhance and embed the group's risk management framework, ensuring consistent methodologies across the investment and insurance operations.
- Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of key risks including operational, financial, and regulatory exposures.
- Contribute to the design of policies and controls that strengthen the organisation's compliance posture, with emphasis on data protection, financial reporting integrity, and risk assurance.
- Oversee GDPR and data protection compliance as the designated contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support training initiatives for key executives and staff to maintain awareness of governance, compliance, and risk obligations.
- Be a key contributor in shaping governance and risk capability within a high-growth specialist company.
